Hasn’t the last week of sharing Common, Fixed Hour Prayer been good?  The practice of the daily offices of prayer is thousands of years old… the daily rhythms of prayer have been thought of as spiritual breath, the back and forth with heaven, since the third century A.D.

You can continue this practice on your own!  Or pick it up whenever you feel the need to “breathe spiritually”.  Here are some great tools that can help you integrate the daily offices of prayer into your life:

Welcome to the Book of Common Prayer – an explanation of the BOCP, as seen below.

The Book of Common Prayer, 1979 edition – The most recent and contemporary rendering of this famous prayer book which has been around since 1549.

Praying with the Church – Following Jesus Daily, Hourly, Today – Scot McKnight

A Contemporary Celtic Prayer Book – I own this, and use it frequently in my personal devotions

A Book of Hours – Thomas Merton – I loved this book, and then loaned it to a friend, never to be seen again!

Ancient Psalms for Contemporary Pilgrims – A wonderful guide to praying the Psalms… an ancient practice.

The St. Francis Prayer Book – this is my personal favorite prayer book – small enough it is in my bag on most days, and helps me “jump start” my prayer times with one of the great saints.
