Easter At The Orchard… it’s an experience! We had some phenomenal services Easter weekend hosted by a ton of volunteers who spent hours and hours working to create great environments.
Our Easter Egg Drop via helicopter was huge this year. The weather cleared up and it turned out to be a great event. LOTS of people for that. We estimate around 3000 kids and parents gathering 20,000 eggs. Our teams planned well and though we still had some unforeseen things happen, they were handled well and quickly. Great job team!
While we had been worried about the weather OUTSIDE, we actually made it rain INSIDE over our stage! Worked out well as a creative piece with the message and the music. A great beginning to our series Smudged.
Here’s the music setlist from the weekend (with links to iTunes to purchase the original recordings):
- Happy Day – Kristian Stanfill
- Marvelous Light – Charlie Hall
- In Christ Alone – Avalon
- Easier To Run – Linkin Park *****
- Unwritten – Natasha Bedingfield *****

Using a helicopter and numerous volunteers, over 20,000 plastic eggs will be dropped onto the property of Orchard Valley Community Church Saturday, March 22, 2008. The event is for kids ages 12 and under. The egg drop will happen at 4:15 PM. There will be a prize in every egg! Immediately after the helicopter drops the eggs onto the field, children will participate in collecting over 20,000 eggs on the field. The field will be divided into four sections by age so that every child has a fair chance of collecting eggs.
Orchard Valley Community Church is in Aurora, IL and located at the corner of Barnes Road and Galena Blvd., across the street from Blackberry Farm.
Services times are Saturday at 3:00 PM (Easter weekend only) and 5:00 PM. Sunday at 9 AM and 10:45 AM.
If you would like more information, call 630-897-8888.

This month in Wahabu Land, we’re talking about courage—being brave enough to do what you should do even when you’re afraid. Sometimes problems seem so big that it’s hard to see past them—making it even more difficult to do what you should do! We are helping kids understand that God is bigger than our biggest problem. Because God is who He says He is—all-knowing, all-powerful, perfect, holy, Savior—nothing can stand against Him. And because God is who He is, we can have courage. He’ll give us the courage to depend on Him in every circumstance, no matter what problems we face.
One way we’re helping kids remember to depend on God even when they’re afraid is to stop, drop, and roll. Stop for a minute. Drop to your knees and talk to God. Then roll —go ahead because God will help us do the right thing even when we’re afraid.

I was speaking with an Orchard Kid’s volunteer on Friday. This is what she had to say about her experience:
“I love teaching the 4 year olds! I’m actually learning Bible stories as I prepare to teach. After my first day, I was able to tell the Bible story to my six year old at bedtime. The next night he asked if I would tell him another one of those stories. It has inspired us to begin reading the Bible together so that we can learn and talk about other stories from the Bible. We love it!”
